Success at the Grove
Earlham Girls win the TTLT World Cup, with the Boys team narrowly missing out by goal difference.
On a sunny Friday, both boys and girls football teams from Earlham attended the finals of the TTLT World cup. The girls team kicked the competition off with a fine win, the pressure was mounting, will the boys team step up to the mark. They displayed some real courage to bounce back after a poor first round. Reshuffling and some attention to detail proved worthwhile.
The boys hit the ground running with a hard fought first win. The girls went into the second game high on confidence and again displayed some serious goal scoring prowess. Again, the boys got an early goal and showed some real resilience to get their second win of the day.
The girls met their toughest opponents yet and went a goal down but showing some serious hard work they grabbed a late goal to gain a deserved draw. With the momentum swinging in the Earlham boy’s direction, they took on another hard team and prevailed with a fantastic long-range finish to gain another win.
The girls picked themselves up after a tight previous game, then went on to score 9 to show their real class. It was back to the boys, they met their toughest opponents and looked a little tired, losing 3-1 to a difficult team.
We reached the last games for both the girls and boy’s teams, both needing a win to put real pressure on everyone else.
The girls stepped up first with a fine final display winning 2-0 to take home the cup. The boys knew only a win would put real pressure on the top teams, they fought hard and left everything out on the pitch. They did it getting a 1-0 win to an undefeated team, sadly the title was decided by goal difference, and we were piped to the Trophy.
Both Earlham teams showed some real resilience and quality, making Mr Harrold a proud coach. All of us at Earlham would like to say well done to our teams and the other teams attending. Big shoutout to Paul Belcher for organising a fantastic event.
