Year group curriculums - what we learn
There is a year group curriculum that shows what our children learn in each subject in each year group. We use a cross-curricular approach to enrich children's learning. This means that pupils learn about a topic in different subjects, which we believe helps them learn and retain knowledge. For example, in our Year 2 unit The Victorians, children read Oliver Twist (guided reading), write about Queen Victoria, mudlarks and chimney sweeps (English and history), learn about hygiene, cholera and Bazalgette’s sewers (linking science and history), design and create a needlework sampler (D&T), use green screen to make a movie about Victorian children (computing) and finally learn about the British Empire (history), which is the introduction to the next unit, Our Global Village, linking the Empire, independence and immigration.
