In Reception, children learnt to look at contemporary art. The children learnt to develop their own opinions about art
Year 1 explored artwork from around the world by learning about the artists and where they originate from. This was an inspiration for children to create their own pieces.
Year 2 discovered how to create their own multiracial superhero with a Zoom workshop featuring a comic artist, James Parsons. The children (and adults) loved it!
Year 3 visited the Wallace Collection to appreciate art on display and attempt at sketching portraits. Children learnt about the power portraits hold and how it contributes to constructing a personal, public and community identity.
Year 4 were visited by artists from the House of Illustration. Children learnt about mark-making, what illustration is, and how images can provide examples of inclusivity and diversity through illustrating a text. Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed their session and produced a fantastic piece of collaborative artwork for their ideal art museum.
Year 5 took a trip to the Estorick Collection and focused on Italian art and culture.
Finally, Year 6 were visited by Saatchi gallery where they created collages focusing on the crisis in America regarding racism. They explored photographs from an exhibition and used it to create their own powerful statements.
Arts Week provided Earlham students with a chance to explore the impact of art and consider how we use art to send a message of importance.
